Harry Styles and The X Factor Audition That Started It All

In 2010, a 16-year-old Harry took the X Factor stage with a dimpled smile, a pocket full of dreams and a quick rendition of Train’s Hey, Soul Sister. As Harry takes the stage and introduces himself to the judges and audience, Simon Cowell with his sharp ear for talent asks Harry, “What makes you think you are good enough?” Harry answers without missing a beat with his usual cheeky humor, “Well, my mum always tells me I’m a good singer so…” Little did the world know, she was right about that as he would become a worldwide superstar!

Then Simon suggests he sing something acapella, so Harry switches to Stevie Wonder’s Isn’t She Lovely. That’s when the magic happens. It’s heartwarming and endearing to watch Harry’s humble, slightly nervous self on that stage vulnerably trying his best. You can see the “wow” in the judges’ eyes as they listen and realize this young 16-year-old has real potential.

The best highlight has to be when he smiles at the judges after he finishes his song. This is the confidence and shyness that’s so uniquely Harry. Simon even nods in pleased fashion as the judges seem glad to have heard him sing acapella. Harry’s voice, without music, really shows his raw talent and it’s clear this isn’t just any audition, it’s the beginning of a journey that would lead him to One Direction and a massively successful solo career.

If you’re ready to relive the first chapter of Harry’s incredible story, this extended cut is the ultimate throwback – hit play, sit back, and enjoy!
