AGT judges were probably not expecting to see a police officer walk onto the stage, donning his uniform and ready to sing Ed Sheeran’s well known hit, “Thinking Out Loud.” But not only did he knock it out of the park, with his soulful rendition of the song, but he had the whole audience on their feet by the end of it!
Mervin Mayo describes how he has been working with at risk youth for 17 years, because he himself was an at risk youth, receiving a respectful applause from the crowd. He credits Curtis Simmons, another police officer, with taking him under his wing and keeping him out of trouble.
When asked by Simon Cowell why he decided to try out this year, Mervin replies back saying he has always wanted to but it took some convincing from his wife to actually take the plunge to audition. 
With piano set up, he sits down, starts playing and begins to sing. The emotion and passion pour out in his vocals. Mervin’s strong and heartfelt rendition had the judges fixated on him. Likewise, the audience was visibly moved. Even giving him a standing ovation and a roaring applause at the end of his performance! His singing truly filled the room with the love you could hear in his voice. Mervin kept glancing over at his wife standing just off the stage, as if singing this song directly to her. It’s beautiful to witness the special love they have for each other. The judges even asking her to come on out and share the stage with him!
The judges recognized the undeniable talent Mervin has, earning him a yes from all 4! It’s truly enjoyable seeing how Mervin shined on that stage!
